Seth Godin, a vice president of direct marketing for Yahoo, was
once quoted in Yahoo Internet Life as having referred to the Internet
as, "the single most
cluttered medium in the history of mankind." We agree. Concerned about
the clutter we found on the Internet, and our often-frustrating efforts
to find what we were looking for by way of the major search engines,
which took us down tedious and sometimes misleading indices to websites
that had little or no relationship to our keyword-target, we set about
ferreting out decent and desirable websites based on criteria
established by some of the more responsible Internet Service Providers
and their trade associations. We arranged these data alphabetically,
set up the e-Lynks website as a public service, and began to solicit
informed user input, something on the order of the old Apple-user
services. All of our alphabetized listings are accessible from each of
the individual e-Lynks pages. We continue in our determination to make
e-Lynks the best portal to the best websites on the Internet WITHOUT
pop-up banner ads, commercial alliances or promotional gimmicks. Until
e-Lynks (and INDXR�) are fully developed, we shall remain graphics
and ad-free and, for the time-being, we shall offer e-Lynks as a public
service to Internet users who need a fast-loading, clutter-free portal
to some of the best websites on the Internet, including GOOGLE� and
other first-rate search engines. e-Lynks periodically adds new listings
by scanning GOOGLE's top-ranked sites, in addition to high-quality
sites recommended by webmasters and users. As we go about our business
of making improvements and seeking to enlarge our viewership and
usership, you can help. If you wish to recommend a website, please do
so. If you find a "dead" site or a listing whose site has undesirable
content, let us know about it. If you like e-Lynks, BOOKMARK it, make
e-Lynks your browser homepage, and ask your ISP to provide a link on
their homepage to e-Lynks.

We are often asked when and if e-Lynks and aGooging will join the
commercial bandwagon, as it is obvious to those who stay abreast of
Internet developments that e-Lynks and affiliated websites have great
potential as revenue-producing adjuncts to fully established Internet
sites and services such as GOOGLE, YAHOO, and eBay. Indeed, we
anticipate and await the day when one or more of these giants see the
value in acquiring our sites and offering them as much-needed service

Microsoft continues to refine and add to Windows XP, although the
focus, previously on VISTA, is now on Windows 7. Despite this, many
continue to learn more about XP. Click here for the latest version of
Explorer. The current XP system, along with Wndows 7, gives users the
power to manage digital photos and music, work with streaming audio and
video, create a home network, andcommunicate with the world, along with
built-in system safeguards to keep everything running smoothly. With a
feature called SYSTEM RESTORE in Windows XP and 7, users can restore
their system without losing personal files. A word of caution: While
you can easily configure XP to use the old conventional desktop,
Win95-98 users will notice a number of changes. For example, the DOS
prompt is a bit hard to find, Print Screen doesn't work the same, and
copying files requires an easy but different approach. MS offers both a
Home Edition and Professional version. SYSTEM RESTORE is also found on
many new computers, either as a OEM add-on or as part of the Windows XP
package. If you exhaust every other means to re-start your PC, you may
want to resort to SYSTEM RESTORE: Click on START, then Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, then System Restore. You will be able to
choose a date that you prefer to restore to. Be Careful here that you
don't go back too far, eliminating recent work that you wish to retain.
Recommendation: Find SYSTEM RESTORE AND ADD A DESKTOP SHORTCUT TO IT.

Confused about who did what and when? Fortune Magazine's "A Brief History of the
Net" gives us the following info: J. C. R. Licklider, Leonard Kleinrock, and Lawrence
Roberts of MIT (not Al Gore, unless his 1993 endorsement of Clipper encryption counts
as "invention of the Internet") were cited as originators of the Internet; a Chicago
hobbyist named Ward Christensen wrote the first MODEM program; William Gibson
introduced the term "Cyberspace"; "The World" in Brookline, Mass is said to have been
the first ISP; Tim Berners-Lee of CERN, Geneva, Switzerland developed HTML and
named his project the World Wide Web; and Marc Andreessen's MOSAIC browser
provided the first easy navigation of the Web. And you thought you knew all of this!
